Featured Artist March 2021

Dori Nelson

Dori Nelson, the Galveston Art League’s Featured Artist for March, began expressing herself through her art at a very young age. “Art is my means of communicating the color I see in my world, my meditation and my means of connecting with people and with my spirit,” she says.
Nelson grew up in Valley Stream, N.Y., and attended the Art Students League in New York City as a teenager. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in art from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. After moving to Texas with her husband and son, she completed a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Houston.
Nelson taught art in New York and New Jersey schools and also worked in advertising. She has lived in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands and has exhibited her work in galleries there. After earning her master’s degree, Nelson resumed her public school teaching career.
In addition to showing her work at the Galveston Art League Gallery, Nelson has exhibited her watercolor paintings and mixed-media art at the Lawndale Gallery in Houston and several galleries in Galveston and Cushing, Maine.
To Purchase any of Dori's work online visit the March Member show which should be posted between March 1-6. Or visit Galveston Art League at 2117A Postoffice Street, Galveston, TX 77550 Saturday or Sunday during the month of March.  Due to COVID 19, it is best to call first—409-621-1008.
